As I’m sure the vast majority of us would prefer, I love to meet my clients before shooting with them so that we can connect, get to know each other better, and in the end, produce photos that are more genuine and personal.
I met Jackie and Gregory for the first time at their engagement session just a couple of weeks before their wedding and while normally that would be rather stressful, as soon as we met we both knew that we would be a great fit for each other.
Jackie and Gregory heard about me from their friends Gaby and Joe and were so impressed by my work they signed right away! Joe Rosenzweig, you may recognize as a Director for the popular Mob Wives and producer for Undercover Boss.
We met in Greenwich Village, NYC and had a wonderful time really showcasing their casual, fun, and free personalities by taking a street photography-esque style in my photography. We had a lot of fun walking the streets of NYC, conversing, and even sitting on the sidewalk for some shots! They brought comfortable and modern outfits that fit right in with the visceral energy of Manhattan.
Come wedding day, we were completely comfortable with each other and as Jackie and Gregory got ready at the W New York – Downtown to have their ceremony and reception at The Battery Garden. I’ve been to this venue many times and I know it like the back of my hand but there was a lovely sunset that really stood out to me that day. As we were taking care of some shoots in the park, onlookers began to gather and let me tell you Jackie looked gorgeous and Gregory, you were so handsome! With some nice shots featuring the Statue of Liberty in the background, we were able to finish with time to spare.
The reception was some of the most fun I've had in a long time. The live band was impeccable and the energy in the room was great. Not to mention just how touching the speeches were. As the parents from both sides shared their stories I remember realizing that was part of why Jackie and Gregory were not only great for each other but such a bright and positive influence to everyone they met.
The night ended with a final speech from the newly-wed bride and groom and although it was 1 AM by the time I was packed and ready to go, the fresh crisp air along with the Statue of Liberty still holding her majestic torch reminded me once more why I do what I do.
I had such a great time shooting with Jackie and Gregory! They were so lively and full of love which was perfect because when it’s real and genuine like that, it really shows in the photographs. That’s something no one can fake.
